What Is Reb-M? The Plant-Extracted Sweetener in ELITE

    Key takeaways

    • Reb-M (rebaudioside M) is a sweetener extracted from the stevia leaf — plant-derived, not artificial.
    • It's the cleanest-tasting glycoside in the leaf, without the bitter aftertaste of older stevia extracts.
    • ELITE is sweetened only with plant-extracted Reb-M — no monk fruit, no sucralose, no sugar alcohols.

Reb-M is the reason a zero-sugar energy drink can taste like a treat instead of a compromise. It's the sweetener in every can of ELITE — here's what it actually is.

    Where Reb-M comes from

The leaves of Stevia rebaudiana contain a family of sweet compounds called steviol glycosides. The most abundant is stevioside — the source of the bitter, licorice-like aftertaste people associate with old stevia products. Rebaudioside M is a different glycoside in the same leaf: sweeter, cleaner, and remarkably close to sugar in taste. ELITE's Reb-M is extracted directly from the stevia plant — not produced by fermentation.

Why it tastes better than old stevia

Early stevia sweeteners were mostly stevioside and Reb-A, which activate bitter taste receptors alongside the sweet ones. Reb-M has a much cleaner profile, which is why it can sweeten a drink on its own without a blend of masking agents.

    Is it safe?

Steviol glycosides, including Reb-M, hold GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status with the FDA — a safety conclusion based on reviewed scientific data, not a formal product approval — and are permitted in the EU following EFSA evaluation, with an acceptable daily intake set well above what any realistic diet reaches. As with any sweetener, the sensible frame is the whole diet, not a single ingredient.

    Why ELITE uses it

Every ELITE can is 0 g sugar and 10 calories, sweetened only with plant-extracted Reb-M. No sucralose, no aspartame, no erythritol, no monk fruit — one clean, plant-derived sweetener across all three flavors.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is Reb-M an artificial sweetener?

No. Reb-M is a steviol glycoside extracted from the stevia leaf — a plant extract, not a synthesized compound like sucralose or aspartame.

    Does Reb-M taste like stevia?

Not the way older stevia extracts do. Reb-M is the sweetest, cleanest-tasting glycoside in the leaf, without the bitter licorice note of stevioside or Reb-A.

    Does ELITE use monk fruit?

No. ELITE is sweetened only with plant-extracted Reb-M — no monk fruit, no sucralose, no sugar alcohols.
